Why Staunton, VA?

There were several reasons we chose Staunton (pronounced STAN-ton). Some listed here.

We had the privilege to live in several metropolitan areas in our twenties. Brian lived in Boston and San Francisco. I lived in Sydney, Australia and Los Angeles. Together we enjoyed living in Manhattan.

Still, you can’t take the country out of the kid. We both like city life. But small-town, rural life has it own charm. Both of us experienced that as kids. Today, it is easy to maintain a co-existing big city, small-town life. This blog will explore how the big city to small-town transition works.

Staunton was cited in 2001 by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of its “Distinctive Dozen” communities – small cities that are the best in America in which to live, work or visit.

In 2002, the National Main Street Center chose Staunton as one of the five “Great American Main Street Communities” in the U.S.

P.S. Finally: I admit I’m biased. I grew up near Staunton. (My father had a business on New Street, and my uncle continues to practice law on Beverley Street).
