About Us
Our generation has a distinct advantage and flexibility of working and living almost anywhere.
I telecommute to a DC-area job and work as a commercial writer; Brian helms George Bowers Grocery, a specialty grocery featuring local food. We personally prefer the idea of a life that mixes urban and rural lifestyles. (And no, urban+rural doesn’t equal suburban life!).
This blog tracks our efforts moving from Manhattan to live in an 1860s stone cottage, renovate an 1890s Victorian, and redefine our lifestyle along the way. We love the city, but, affectionately refer to ourselves (and the friends with similar ideals we’ve met along the way) as “urban escapees”.
We’ve discovered is that yes, life this way is both a little “flat” (Friedman) and “spiky” (Florida).
Beyond our house and business projects…
You can find us tending to our urban farm, volunteering in our local green initiative group, or participating in the arts and economic development of the place we happily call home: downtown Staunton, Virginia (2 1/2 hours south of DC). Join us.
Sincerely,
Katie McCaskey & Brian Wiedemann
