Hang Tough: The B. W. Shutter Story

before

Hanging old shutters isn’t nearly as easy as we thought. Turns out we didn’t have the proper brackets (called pintels) to make them operational. And, to my dismay, the expensive shutterdogs don’t fit. Dang it!

Note to fellow shutter hangers: don’t let your girlfriend order things online without measuring a few more times! Particularly if she happens to be measure-resistant!

Brian did, however, manage to get another coat of paint on the window sill so we can visualize the cottage in a new hue. Looks great. And he managed to do some other small fixes around the house so the day was still productive.

What I’m learning is that things really do take longer than expected. Rather than wait for “after” photos I’ll start showing more “in-process” photos.

Today we’re waiting for the heating specialist to arrive to give us a quote on removing the desk-sized gas heaters on both floors. We’ll need to figure out an alternative heating solution but in the meantime we’re sick of stepping around these large metal boxes.
