The spot on the floor looks like water damage. Since it is not near a window I assume there may have been a leak in the roof at some point. Chances are that it would sand out…but how far down is the question. The rug idea is certainly appropriate but you could also do some “spot sanding” and try to re-stain with wood finish to match.

…so says the chapter in a book I want to read called “Career Management & Work-Life Integration”.

Couldn’t agree more. I love this new, more relaxed pace! Speaking of which, here are photos of the office as Brian began work on it today

Uncle Frank's chair

Lucretia Cat prefers to keep cool in Uncle Frank’s chair. This chair was in his office at the bank, circa 1940s.

Kilz

The shoe molding shown here in the office was inexplicably brown. We’re painting it white to look like part of the molding, not part of the floor. We’re using Kilz primer. If it works well we might try it on the tar stains.

Here’s a shot of the office as Brian began work today.

damaged floor

The one place the floors are really damaged is here in the office. We’re not sure sanding the floors again would be a good idea, so, in the meantime we’re covering it with a rug. I do like that it shows the home’s age.

Driver sisters

Here’s the photo mentioned a few days ago. It shows my grandmother and great-aunts. It now hangs in our hallway.
